Joseph L. Davis (Retired)
Mr. Davis is a founding Partner and President of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra. He is a 1964 Honors graduate from the University of Idaho Law School. Mr. Davis’ roots as a labor and employment attorney can be traced to a three-year stint in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to manage a staff of more than 50 personnel specialists at the Oakland Army Transfer Station for Vietnam replacements. During his tenure there, he also served as both the prosecuting and defending attorney in special courts-martial. After his completion of military service, Mr. Davis joined the National Labor Relations Board, where he quickly advanced to Deputy Regional Attorney for the Northwestern United States. In 1979 he entered private practice, with a focus on assisting employers with labor issues.

William T. Grimm

Mr. Grimm is a shareholder and the Managing Director of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra. He has specialized in the field of employment law since graduating cum laude from the University of Puget Sound School of Law. His labor law career began as a Field Attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in its Seattle Regional Office, including service as a Deputy Regional Attorney for Region 19 of the National Labor Relations Board. During his tenure with the National Labor Relations Board and Davis Grimm Payne & Marra, Mr. Grimm has actively practiced in state and federal court on a wide variety of employment law matters. Since entering private practice, Mr. Grimm has focused his practice on employer defense litigation, representing clients in state and federal courts on claims involving employment, wage/hour, discrimination, wrongful discharge and related matters. He also is extensively involved in a wide range of labor relations matters, including collective bargaining, arbitrations, union organizational campaigns, and National Labor Relations Board proceedings.

John M. Payne

Mr. Payne is a shareholder of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra, and is an active member of the Washington and Michigan State Bar Associations. Upon graduating cum laude from Detroit College of Law in 1979, Mr. Payne served for two years as labor counsel for Ferris State College in Michigan. In this capacity, he was responsible for contract negotiations and labor arbitration cases with numerous unions covering units of faculty members, nurses, police, clerks, and skilled trades. Since entering private practice in 1981, Mr. Payne’s ongoing labor relations practice includes representing management in discrimination charges, labor negotiations, arbitrations, contract administration, employment litigation, elections and charges before the National Labor Relations Board, and litigation in state and federal courts. He has conducted seminars and workshops in the areas of labor negotiations, sexual harassment, drug testing, preventing and defeating discrimination charges, and handling employee discipline.

Joseph G. Marra

Mr. Marra is a shareholder of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra, where he represents employers in all types of employment litigation and provides advice on a variety of employment matters. His practice focuses on management advocacy and defense in private and public sector labor and employment law, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements; advising and representing employers in all areas related to union contracts; responding to unfair labor practices and union organizing campaigns; defending against claims of wrongful discharge, discrimination and sexual harassment; defending class actions; wage/hour law compliance and litigation defense in state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Mr. Marra was a National Labor Relations Board Attorney from 1983 through 1987. He received his J.D. from Gonzaga School of Law in 1983. He has successfully defended employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Mr. Marra is a frequent and popular speaker for employer organizations and business groups. Mr. Marra helps clients implement and maintain proactive and preventative employment practices, and he spends considerable time training managers in the implementation of proper practices. Mr. Marra is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Washington and Montana.

Eileen M. Lawrence

Ms. Lawrence is a shareholder of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra. Upon graduating from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, cum laude, in 1981, she has maintained an active and varied practice, currently working with numerous public and private entities on employment issues including risk loss matters, labor relations/negotiations, administrative hearings, litigation, appeals, mediation and investigative services. Her practice includes representing cities, municipalities, public entities and companies. She is an Arbitrator for King and Pierce Counties. She has extensive trial and appellate level experience in state and federal Courts, including U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Washington and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She combines her experience and expertise in the area of employment law to provide clients with practical solutions to employment problems. She has over 24 years of experience since she began practicing law in 1981, and most recently was the owner of Cedar River Law Professionals. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Employment Law and Litigation Section of the Washington State Bar Association, Washington Defense Trial Lawyers, Formerly Serving on the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Employment Law Committee, Liability Reform Coalition. She served on the Committee to formulate and update Washington’s First Set of Pattern Jury Instructions for Employment Claims and currently serves as a Board Member for the Covington Chamber of Commerce. Brian P. Lundgren

Mr. Lundgren specializes in employment and labor law. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Lundgren spent three years in the U.S. Army as an infantry mortarman stationed in Friedberg, Germany. He attended Hamline University School of Law in Minnesota, where he graduated summa cum laude. Upon graduating law school, Mr. Lundgren spent over five years as a civil trial attorney handling a wide range of litigation matters in both state and federal court. Since joining Davis Grimm Payne & Marra, he has focused his practice exclusively in the fields of employment and labor law, including both consultation and employer defense litigation. He applies his trial experience and understanding of employment and labor law to effectively assist employers with compliance issues, risk avoidance, and defense against lawsuits. Mr. Lundgren is admitted to practice in the states of Washington and Minnesota, the United States District Court, District of Minnesota, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Patrick S. Pearce

Mr. Pearce graduated with honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Washington State University before earning his law degree with honors from the University of Oregon School of Law. After serving as a law clerk to federal trial judges in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, Mr. Pearce entered private practice in Seattle. Mr. Pearce is admitted to practice in Washington state and the United States District Courts for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington. Mr. Pearce provides both counsel and litigation services on a range of employment and workplace issues including harassment and discrimination, non-competition and trade secret, wage/hour, employee discipline and misconduct, and workplace policies and procedures. He has been a speaker at a number of seminars on employment topics ranging from interviewing and hiring, to company policies and handbooks, to employee discipline and termination.

Selena C. Smith

Ms. Smith is an associate with Davis Grimm Payne & Marra. She graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law and spent a summer during school as a law clerk for the firm. During law school, Ms. Smith was an associate editor of the Oregon Law Review. She also volunteered at the local legal aid office and was awarded a pro bono certificate upon graduation for her services. Ms. Smith’s experience also includes interning with the in-house legal departments of a national retail company based in Portland, Oregon, and a health services organization based in Seattle, Washington. Prior to law school, Ms. Smith worked in the banking industry, and she graduated from the University of Oregon with a major in economics. She currently focuses her practice on a variety of employment and labor law issues and is admitted to practice in the state of Washington.
